The Sower Press was owned by my father, Thomas Barry. He started it in the 1930’s and with a few years off in the navy in WWII he ran it until he died in 1971. He did a lot of Roman Catholic religious printing. He was friends with Dorothy Day and Sister Mary of the Compassion, and did work for Catholic artists. I started working for him as a young kid, mostly doing routine job work. The equipment was sold in the 70’s when none of his (9) children wanted to take over the shop. A couple of months ago when I turned 65 I decided to set up a letterpress shop in my barn. I’m fixing up a work room now. I bought type, small equipment, a 9 x 13 Gordon, 2 cutters, and just brought home a 12 x 18 Kluge that is still on a trailer in my yard. Maybe trying to recapture my youth. Steve Barry
