Emerson Wulling was the proprietor of the Sumac Press from 1915 until a few months before his death in 2005, age 102. Dr. Wulling was a Professor Emeritus from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. He printed many bound books and booklets of his own, as well as works by his students and a variety of scholars. Wulling operated his Sumac Press for nearly 90 years, and it was likely the longest operating private press ever. Emerson Wulling is the subject of the private press folio book by Gaylord Shanilac (Midnight Paper Sales press), “Emerson G. Wulling Printer for Pleasure.”
