Free: New home urgently sought for rare 10”x15” Platen Press

I am offering this rare press free but need to find a good home for it urgently, as I desperately need to make some space in my workshop for a Wharfedale that is being delivered in two weeks! Unless I can find a new home for this press, I may have to look at scrapping it which will be a great loss, especially as it wouldn’t need much work to get it up-and-running. Help!

Manufactured by Furnival & Co in the 1930s, this press is similar in design to the Golding Jobber (but larger) with ‘swans neck’ ink-duct and wedges beneath the Platen. Inside chase measures 10”x15”. It has three good rubber forme rollers but the ink duct roller needs re-covering, although this is not essential for printing. One machine chase is included. I have never printed on the press myself but the previous owner did up until I acquired it.

This press is in need of a slight overhaul but it is complete apart from missing feed-boards and non-original guards. It is powered via a pulley on the press that is operated by a clutch lever and doesn’t have a ‘treadle’ like the press in the engraving. A motor is also included and there is a spare ink duct and some assorted belting.

Pickup only, from the CO5 postcode area. Please note that this press weighs approximately 13cwt and will need to be transported in a large vehicle, with a tail lift/crane. Access is very good, via a wide concrete drive and help, with loading up, will be available at this end.
