Clamshell Box Workshop | Hamilton Wood Type & Print Museum

On Friday, May 30 - Sunday June 1, Rachel Wiecking will conduct a Clamshell Box Making Workshop at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. This unique and fascinating museum holds one hundred years of American graphic design and printing history. Rachel is the current Victor Hammer Fellow in Book Arts at Wells College in Aurora, New York.

Rachel will guide participants through the process of making an archival clamshell box. Clamshell boxes typically hold the printed objects and documents we value most. It’s always exciting to see an exquisitely crafted clamshell box; because you expect that what’s inside will be precious and beautiful.

Working from one of the World’s premier wood type collections, workshop participants will have the opportunity to print labels for their boxes. .

The workshop schedule:

Friday May 30, 7 pm - 10 pm: The Workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the museum and fellow Workshop Participants.

Saturday, May 31, 9 am - 12 noon: Work begins on clamshell boxes.
12 noon - 1 pm: Break for lunch.
1 pm - 5 pm: Work resumes; Participants can work in the museum until 9 pm, if they wish to do more work.

Sunday, June 1: 9 am - 12 noon: Work begins on clamshell boxes.
12 noon - 1 pm: Break for lunch.
1 pm - 5 pm: Work resumes. The workshop will end at 5 pm; participants can work as late as 7 pm, if they wish to do more work.

$250.00 Materials will be provided.

Participation in this workshop is limited to six. Your registration is not complete until the Museum receives a check or money order in the amount of $250.00 made payable to the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum.
