Beware of Scams

This is a note to warn everyone about individuals who are out there preying on others ,,,,,,,,,,,,I posted an ad on Briar Press for type and an individual by the name of “”“Martin Daniel”“” contacted me on buying the type ,,, and sent me a check, he made it sound like he was from NY. and the item was suppose to be shipped to New York. Then when I got the letter it was postmarked London, UK.,,inside was the check and a letter,,,,,,,,,,, the type I was selling was $300.00 and the check was for $3,100.00,,, and letter stated that I was to take out the payment for my items and forward the remaining money via western union to the accountant of the shipping company in the UK , and this had to be done as soon as I received this payment for my goods, with another different name and also the check was written on bank paper, trying to make it look real ( which can be bought at any Staples or any other business supply store you may have in your area ) This also had another different name on it and the check which was from a bank in the US. “Pennsylvania” ,,, now be very careful if you are selling items , either on Briar Press or anywhere else on the internet ,,, these individuals (low-life) are out there hoping to scam people ,,,,,be very,, very careful ,,The bank was notified and they are taking action in the matter , try to pass this on to any of your friends that you have that sell on the internet,,, Good Luck and regards ,,, Ed

Ed,

Thanks for sharing this with us.

It is worth repeating a few points in case people have overlooked them. Scams are fairly easy to recognize. Review our information on Recognizing scams and suspicious offers.

Only registered users can contact you unless you include an email address in your ad. For further information see Email addresses and spam in Classifieds.

We have been quite successful in eliminating spam and scams, but occasionally people will register and contact advertisers. If you feel that you have received a suspicious email, do not answer it. Forward the entire email to the Briar Press spam address included at the top of the email message. If the message is a scam, we can block the user, but without hearing from you, there is no way we can be aware of this abuse of the system.

Sorry you had this problem. Hope you can resolve this with the bank.
