New to Briar Press? Help us help you.
The staff at Briar Press consists of just two people. We try to respond to your problems and inquiries, but don’t have enough time to personally answer all the questions that we receive from now over 54,000 registered members. We have tried to address some of the questions in the help pages, but many people are in the same boat as we are, with little time to spare. Always feel free to write us if you have any questions, but you might receive a more prompt and thorough answer if you take some time to review the topics in the Help section. A blue link to this section is in or below the gray area at the top of each page.
You may also find the answer to your question if you search the archives and review the site before writing us directly.
If your question isn’t answered in the Help or Search sections, please consider posting it in one of the Discussion forums. You will reach a much broader group of people with considerably more expertise than we can offer.
We are unable to address technical questions that have to do with your own personal computer as each platform and browser has it’s own or a number of different procedures for doing tasks such as uploading photos. Although issues such as this are not letterpress related, perhaps if you post questions like this in the section for Briar Press & web site matters, some kind soul will be able to identify with your computer and problem and may be able to help.
I would like to personally thank all of the members who have patiently and politely responded to the questions that have been posted in the forums, but this message is the only practical way to express my appreciation to everyone. Thank you, thank you all for your help and participation.
What is the fee for placing letterpress type ads. I have submitted them before but have been turned down because you say I am a dealer, which is not true as I sold my shop and have a lot of items left over. I do not mind paying a fee so what is the procedure to do this.
Richard
Richard,
Please read the eligibility guidelines, particularly the part that says “Dealers, resellers, suppliers and others who commercially or regularly sell or sold printing equipment, or letterpress products or services, are eligible to post commercial ads for a fee that will support our free services.”
In order to continue to maintain the site and keep most of our services free, we need the small amount of income that comes from people who advertise items on a regular basis if the items generate income for them.
We appreciate your understanding.
Please send in a donation to keep this web site going….these 2 people work very hard to keep letterpress alive…..as of course all you that visit this site and give us advice X0X0X0 LONG LIVE LETTER PRESS!
Where do we send donations? PayPal? Thank you for all your help.

I found Briar by searching for Line-o-scribe and I found comments from people who have purchased or otherwise come by a show card press by that name. I too have such a show card press or writer as the case may be. Mine shows a patent date of 1935. I believe that mine would be of that vintage because that is about the time my father would have purchased it. I not longer need this machine and would like some idea of its value. I have a case of rubber letters and other accessories to go with it. I preferable would like to sell it or possibly donate it to a museum as it has some historical value to my immediate locale but I need to assess its value before doing so.
41,000 plus members….. Imagine if we each sent in five bucks. Happy New Year
I believe that Vern Hodgson is on to something.
How many of us visit this website daily for help or to help? We will make our $5.00 donation. Will you follow?
Post your comment, this will show Elizabeth and Eric our appreciation, for the hour of dedication to this wonderful site.
As much as I appreciate Briar Press and all Elizabeth and Eric are doing, I think that we need to donate all we can to the people of Haiti, who were rocked back to the Stone Age. Orphaned children are eating dirt to stay alive. We must help.
Paul
Donate to both!
How do we post a new subject under discussion? Some how I haven’t figured it out. Thanks Ron
