Alembic Press

The Alembic Press is housed in a 70ft stone barn and has over 300 founts of metal and wood type (from 5pt to 90 line) including many Victorian faces. It has Albion, Arab, Cropper, Farley, and Vandercook floor-standing presses, and a Sigwalt and three styles of Adana table-top presses. Working Monotype equipment includes two Composition casters, one Super caster and two keyboards.

The Press produces four or five titles a year, usually on aspects of printing or paper. These books are either hand-set, or machine set using the Press’s own Monotype equipment. One week letterpress workshops are offered every summer, and an apprentice position is often available for one to three month periods - summer preferred as it is much warmer!
