Von Son RB Ink - Runny after mixing?

I purchased the basic colors in Von Son Rubber Based in from Boxcar press and am now mixing various pantone colors to use.

Normally the ink is quite stiff or thick if you would call it - more like very thick peanut butter however, the transparent mixing white I got is pretty runny - what I would compare to more of a soft frosting thickness so after I mix the inks with it - it is quite runny.

Then when I press with those colors it is not thick so it looks more like there are bubbles in there like when painting with thick watercolors.

Anyone run into this issue or did I get a bad batch of transparent white?

Thanks,
Brandi

How about asking the manufacturer or the supplier of the inks? Maybe they can help you. Sometimes transparent whites are being used to make your ink a bit more supple and smooth. This might be your case. I don’t think van Son would do ‘bad batches’.

when my ink gets too runny, I add a little magnesium carbonate to stiffen it up. You can buy it from graphic chemical.

thomas - I did leave a message for the mfg today but they had not gotten back to me so I decided to post here in case someone else had run into the same issue. If they come back to me with a good solution I will be sure to share it here.

eb - thanks for the tip!
