Forme roller hardness

I am replacing the three forme rollers on my cylinder proofpress Max Simmel KORREX Berlin. What hardness should I ask for? The current rollers measure 28 Shore A durometer. I’m printing from foundry and monotypes, type-high cuts and halftones. Thank you.

I did a small amount of research when recovering my letterpress rollers and everywhere I consulted covered with 20-25 durometer rubber. 25-30 durometer is generally used for offset rollers if I understand correctly. I hope someone else can be more specific than that.

I use 25 Shore on my Eickhoff flatbed and my table tops.

Yes, 25 Shore A is indeed the hardness most often recommended to me. I will ask for the three forme rollers to be made to 22-25 Shore A. Also I’ve been told that Nitrile PVC rollers have all the desired qualities of tack and durability. Here is a photo of my cylinder flatbed Max Simmel KORREX Berlin. It was made in 1967. I found it in the Netherlands.
Thank you for your advice. Jens, I enjoyed the Flickr “virtual” tour of your workshop.
