Removing feed board from Vandercook 219?

Hi all,

Is it possible to remove the feed board from a Vandercook 219? (not sure which model — e.g. old/new style, AB, etc. — if it makes a huge difference)

What sort of length savings would one be looking at? In other words, if a 219 old style (for argument’s sake) is spec’d out to be 10’9” long, what would it be if the feed board was removed?

As is likely obvious, I don’t have such a press in front of me to try this and measure.

I suppose I could put this another way: what can I collapse/remove on such a press so as to minimize its length? I’m looking at possibly storing the press in the short term (< 6 mo.), but need to consider the space in my garage, etc.

Thanks!
Matthew

Both OS and NS 219 feedboards are held in place with wood screws and are easily removed. You won’t save much length unless you also unbolt the support brackets, at least on an OS 219. I think the NS219 brackets are also removeable, but I don’t have them in front of me either. OS 219s also had a removeable table at the bed end originally, but on a 219AB that extension would be a lot of work to remove, and if I remember correctly, contains part of the AB mechanism.
