Paper Recommendations

I’m a recent graphic design graduate. During my last year at school I did a letterpress internship and fell in love with printing. This past month I purchased my first press. (Pearl) I’ve been working on a couple of small illustrations and cards using Crane’s Lettra line. I would like to work on adhesive labels. I’ve read that most people are using Strathmore Label Stock. Does anyone have a website or address where I could purchase this item? Or any other suggestions for adhesive papers for letterpress?

There’s always the local office supply chain store. They have a wide variety of labels in white, in 8 1/2 X 11 sheets. I think many of those stores which have a copier department, have a guillotine type paper cutter, and could cut the sheets into smaller sizes. (The only caution would be that if the waste is stripped out between the labels on the sheets, they might not be able to cut too many sheets at once, with accuracy).

If you didn’t want to set the type for the labels more than once, you could print all the labels in one position, then move the gauge pins and print all the labels in the next position, and so on until you printed all of the positions.

You can buy Strathmore online at www.mohawkpaperstore.com. I’m sure you can find it other places as well, but that’s direct from the manufacturer.
