Adana eight five classes / help

Hoping that someone will be able to point me in the right direction! I am brand spanking new to letterpress, I’ve never done this before. I just received an Adana eight five from England, fully refurbished, it appears to me to be in great condition.

What I would love now is to take a class or even meet with someone instructing on this particular model - in the Boston area. I can get it set up, everything seems to be working the way it should but I can’t seem to get an even impression. I’ve read the manuals, and done the adjustments - and still no luck. If anyone knows of anything like this, I’d love to hear about it!

Also - not sure if this makes a difference - I’m using a Boxcar deep relief base and photopolymer, I’m not trying to set type.

Thank you!

Jennifer, i am south of boston in Hanson, if you want you could bring the press here and and we could figure it out. i’ve never seen a adana before but have printed with kelseys, craftsmans and a few other small presses. i now work out of my garage full time doing letterpress printing on windmills and a kluge and a 10x15 c&p. if you want you can call me and we can set up a time, 1-781-293-2157, Dick Goodwin, there will be a fee, a like regular coffee and a blue berry muffin.

Hi Dick,

Thank you, that sounds great! I am away traveling for the next two weeks but I will give your number a call when we return and figure out a good meeting time.

I’ve been tinkering all weekend with this press. I’ve read every manual I can get my hands on, and even dis-assembled nearly the whole thing in an attempt to get a better understanding of how it works. While I’m glad I dis-assembled, and DO feel like I know more about the mechanics of the press, I still can’t get a print!

Thank you for your response, and I’ll be in touch!!

Jennifer,
plan a holiday in NSW, Australia!
I’m running classes on small platen maintenance and how to print on them. There are a couple of things to be known, and whence instructed you won’t feel like you have
re-invented the wheel, so to speak.
