nerdling, this is so helpful — and also mystifying. I use Firefox on Mac OS X every day and have never seen a problem like this.

I did some digging, and now wonder if the problem can be fixed on your end. Found an article from Mac OS X Hints that describes a Firefox rendering problem in which “links or bolded fonts… sometimes overlay the word next to them.” Turns out this can happen when fonts are duplicated in a user’s Library folder. You would think that working in a design studio with thousands of fonts at your fingertips would be more help than hindrance, but in this case it turns out not to be so.

I am presently viewing the site through Firefox at home, where I am absolutely sure I have only one copy of each font—as opposed to work, where there are multiples of pretty much everything. The links show out just fine here, so it appears that your fix is correct.
