Soy ink on composition rollers

Hello,

I’ve got some brand new composition rollers coming my way and was wondering if anyone has had trouble with soy inks. Obviously water based inks will destroy them, but I was curious if anything terrible will happen with soy. I ask because I’ve read that soy ink isn’t well regulated and could have almost anything in it. Is there any test I can do beforehand to ensure I’m not about to botch them big time?

Thank you all!

The ink industry is very well regulated. The difference between oil based and soy based inks are a matter of petroleum solvents versus plant derived oils, which was pushed upon the industry in the 1980s during the oil crisis that gave us Ronald Reagan. Most oil based inks today use a percentage of soy products (it’s part of the reason that modern inks are so shiny). The inks still use the heavy metal pigments, which is the real concern. You should be ok whichever ink you choose, but don’t pretend that you are “going green” with the use of soy inks. The corporate farms that grow soy are depleting the aquifer in the center of the country, so it seems that it’s a toss-up on how we are contributing to our own destruction.

Just the answer I needed! Thank you Paul. If I go green, it will be by accidentally skipping showers.

Thanks for the warning ;o)

keyesdesign, over time your composition rollers will
botch themselves. Rubber would have been a better investment.best james
