Multi-day letterpress courses?

We’re a little low on master printers in my neck of the woods. I just recently purchased a C&P 10x15 to complement my tabletop Craftsman and I’m thinking of shifting from just my graphic design work to at least some pro letterpress printing in the near-ish future.

I’m aware that asking questions of the Briar Press boards and the listserv can only get me so far. What I need is to see is how the pros do it. Lacking a master printer who may be willing to have me as their apprentice, I’m guessing I should look into taking a course as the next best thing.

Does anyone know of any good, multi-day letterpress intensives out there? I’ve found one at the SFCB (http://sfcb.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=77) - is there anything else like this out there, perhaps specifically for platen presses?

I will certainly travel for this, so all of North America is fair game (FYI, I’m in Edmonton, Canada).

Hi Vikki,

I was just looking into this myself. There are courses in letterpress at Emily Carr University here in Vancouver as part of the Continuing Studies program. Two are listed here (http://www.ecuad.ca/programs/courses/CEBA) It looks like one of them is an intro course (maybe too basic for you) and the other is ‘open studio.’ I also found this (http://www.moduspress.com/workshops.html), a design studio in Vancouver that offers group or private letterpress workshops.

Good luck!
