.001 Thickness Paper

I’m trying to check and adjust the impression on the carriage of my Vandercook SP-15. Gerald Lange recommends using .001 thick tissue. Any idea where I can find something that thin. So far everything I’ve found has been twice that thick. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can purchase one mil plastic (.001) at the hardware store. Try one thickness of a zip lock bag. It may be a bit over one mil. Saran wrap is probably one half mil. Improvise.

Tissue paper sold by printmaking suppliers is .001. Japanese Silk Tissue, which can often save the day is .0005.

New York Central Art Supply, Dan Smith, etc.

Be a bit careful with synthetics. They can stretch. I once thought aluminum foil would be a great idea. Hmmm.

I’ve got to agree that some plastics may not be suitable. I’ve had good results with mylar, but not-so-good results with other plastics (mainly poly’s) due to stretch and/or compression.

What about waxed paper?
