Thanks for posting this—I’m glad to see it’s still open.

Walbaum-Antiqua casting at Stempel - I have just received my order of 8 pt Walbaum-Antiqua cast by Rainer Gerstenberg at the Stempel foundry. Thank you, Thomas, for posting these photos - you must have had a wonderful visit there.

Last March I asked Rainer if Stempel had the Walbaum matrices, since Stempel acquired the Berthold materials when it was acquired by them in the ’70s. He went looking for them, and the matrices were found a month later in the warehouse in Switzerland! This past summer he began casting this classic type again and now 8, 10, and 12 point Didot are available (your photos show packaged fonts of 12 pt). He has the matrices for 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 28, 36 and 48 pt. Unfortunately, the matrices for Walbaum Kursiv and Halbfett weren’t found, but hopefully they will be some day.
