Pewter Ink?

I have a job that was passed on to me in which the client is asking for a metallic pewter ink. I haven’t really worked much with metallics and haven’t been able to find a supplier that carries pewter. Is it the same thing as silver or do you need to mix it? I don’t have a metallic pantone book. Thanks.

justajar, regular offset PMS 877 pretty much prints
pewter. best james

To me, pewter is a little darker than silver. If you want a darker silver, start with PMS877 as James says, and put a tiny amount of black in it.

This could be a very subjective situation. Is the customer going to approve the color beforehand? If so, I would print a block of 877, then put a little black in the ink which was on the press, let it mix well, and then print another block.

One other thing to remember: if the customer wants a “shiny” look, you won’t get it if the paper you use, has a rough texture. It will mostly look gray. It won’t be much better than if you printed a gray made with black and transparent white.
