Identify this part?

Upon removing a few parts in order to clean my new Craftsmen Monarch, I managed to have a part left over once I (thought I) put it back together. The press works without it, so I’m thinking that it may be a part related to the sheet feeders (which I don’t use or have assembled). Any ideas? Thanks!

The part is placed upon the gripper bar (round end on the left). The gripper bar spring (short end) is placed through the smaller of the two holes and the chinch bolt is tightened. When correctly aligned … with the location of the grippers, relative to the platen, the actuation of the press enables the grippers to contact the platen just before the platen reaches your type. When the platen opens the grippers hold your newly printed item from sticking to the type. The grippers then return to the set postion allowing you to withdraw your work.

Wow, I never would have guessed it goes on that side. Thanks for the help! I was wondering why the pin that hold the little spring was so long. Now I know it’s because it is the pin that this little part goes onto.

If anyone has a reference photo of how this should be installed, I’d appreciate it.

Ink Spot
That has to be a showroom press. It doesn’t get any ink on it does it?

Very pretty

Thanks for the complement Inky. At T and T Press Restoration we take the old ink off so the new owner has all the joy of putting the ink back on.

if anyone else has a more detailed view of this area of their Craftsmen, please do share a photo or email it to me. I really am having a hard time seeing exactly how this piece fits on the press (the image embedded in the earlier posting isn’t quite high-res enough for me to see)
