model number, mfg date

I am new to this, I have Chandler & Price, Craftsman press, 12” x 18” model number RD2138, it is in shop and working, was used for die cutting. I am trying to determine the MFG date, it is note listed on the serial number sheet I have, fits between 1947—1948. Any info would be appreciated.

This list certainly puts Serial # RD2138 in either 1947 or 1948.
It lists:
RD1900 1947
RD2250 1948

One would be hard pressed to determine which year exactly. It could be late ‘47 or early ‘48…perhaps.

Does your press have a Rice feeder?

The most common assumption has been that the numbers represent the start of the year. That would place your press in mid to late 1947.

You are correct Arie. I don’t know what led me to think otherwise. 1947.
