Hello,
In my search for a floor press, I see a lot of CPs turn up, some new some old style.

What is the difference, besides the spokes of the flywheel, in the two styles, should I be looking for one preferably over the other?

If you were buying one, what questions would you ask a seller about it?

Thanks!!!

I don’t see much difference between old and new style c&p, if you want to treadle a press make sure the shaft the flywheel is on has a bend in the middle of the press, if its a straight shaft you won’t be able to hook up a treadle. If the press was used for die cutting it could take years off its life. To see if the press is worn out remove the chase and close the press on impression then grab the platen, if it rocks its not good, a very little movement is ok, also remove the top sheet and make sure the platen isn’t welded. i think if you take your time you should find one near you, the 8x12 is a good press but if you have the room the 10x15 gives you just enough more room to print many more things.
