Printing Exhibit and Moveable Type Oct 15 & 16

Free letter press event this weekend. Kyle Durrie from Power & Light Press in Portland, OR is traveling across the country in an old delivery trunk that she has converted into a mobile print shop. She will perform letter press demonstrations in front of the Colony House on Washington Square from 11am to 3pm on both Saturday October 15th and Sunday October 16th.

In conjunction with her visit, we will debut the latest exhibit from the Newport Historical Society, “Cases & Types: The Lives and Works of Printers in Early Newport”, at the Colony House. This exhibit celebrates the history of the James Franklin Press, one of the few surviving colonial-era printing presses in North America, and the diverse range of documents that were created on the press. The exhibit runs through December 1st.
