Wooden storage boxes

I picked these up on eBay a while back and I’m wondering what they’re for. They’re ink-stained inside, and too shallow for type. They seem pretty old.

Hmmm. For some reason the photos are not showing up. The files seem small enough. I’ll post a link … hmmm, now the links don’t work … Try these …

not sure but i think they are storage boxes for monotype mats.

Celluar Mats for the composition caster. Special Sorts used to be shipped in the boxes, as the mats would arrive assembled in the frame for your machine

Dick is correct. These are mat boxes for the storing of auxillary characters and borders for Monotype casting. Here are a couple of pictures of what’s in the next room here at NA Graphics.

Thanks! Fritz, I don’t suppose you’d like four more? Free, and I’ll even pay for shipping. Anyone? :-)

Well this site gets more traffic than I thought. The boxes have already been spoken for.
