Hermann Zapf “Standard Lay of the Case” broadside

Numbered “98/200” and signed by Zapf in pencil on the bottom left-hand corner. This rare print is the ultimate map to the California job case and is perfect for any letterpress shop with hand-set type. The print is framed in an unfinished pine frame with archival glass. A beautiful piece. I am asking $225 for it. I would prefer pick-up but I could probably arrange shipping. There is a quote by Goudy at the top and bottom of the case that reads “The alphabet is a system and a series of symbols representing collectively the elements of written language. Letters are the individual signs that compose the alphabet signifying primarily but one thing, what letter it is—its name. A letter is symbol with a definite shape and significance, indicating a single sound or combination of sounds and providing a means, through grouping for the invisible impression of words, that is, of thoughts.”

Printed by Myriade Press in 1978.
