looking for letterpress in Montreal

Is anyone aware of an artist co-op or collective in Montreal that has access to a letterpress? There seems to be very little interest in letterpress in Quebec in general. I moved here from Alberta in September 2006, and if anyone could disprove this impression, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello Correy Baldwin, I am also from Montreal and am looking for a letterpress community. Have you had any luck yet? I am looking for beginner lessons myself and am interested in further investigating polymar plates. Any advice? Grazie

Hi there—

I’m in Montpelier, Vt, if you feel like taking a drive. Or if you hear of anything up that way, I’d like to hear about it.

Thanks!
Kelly

Hello Alain,
Can you send me some info on your atelier. I’m very interested in letterpress. How can i reach you? Grazie.

Good to hear from everyone. I hope your Easters were wonderful.

Grazie — I’m glad I’m not the only one on the search. I’ll be in touch.

Alain — I would love to hear more about what you have planned for September. What kind of press do you have?

And Kelly — I just may come for a drive sometime this spring! You are a little out of the way, but I would like to see Vermont. What do you have set up?

Correy—

I have a small shop—a C&P Pilot and a Nolan proofing press. But I’m a business, so there’s always something happening! Shoot me an email if you make it down this way.

Updated. I AM A LETTERPRESSMAN FOR 30 YEARS I TEACH LETTERPRESS AS WELLAS LOOKING TO POSSIBLY RELOCATE EMAIL ME IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED
MAYBE YOU GUYS CAN ALL GET TOGETHER AND BRING ME OUT FOR AWHILE

correy,

i’ve been looking for letterpress resources in montreal for a few years now, and there’s not much. there’s a press & type at concordia university, but of course you have to be a student there. and atelier circulaire has a vandercook, but no type, or very little. if you had polymer plates you wanted to print, though, you could.

um. i guess that’s not much help. be sure to post if you find anything!

Hi Alain,
I would be interested to learn letterpress in Montreal. Could you give me lessons? I would like some info. Thank you

I’m also interested in learning letterpress printing (and in Montreal). Alain, are you giving lessons?

I too am interested in taking letterpress lessons in Montreal. I have a tiny bit of experience and would love to learn more.

I’ve been recently trying to find a table top platen press with a side lever, minimum 5”x8”, but I’m not having any luck so far. If anyone is selling one in the region or outside, I’m totally willing to travel to get it. Thanks!

Grace

Grace, its a long ride but you should look at Letterpress Things in Chicopee, Massachusetts, they are only open twice a month, John Barrett runs the store, he has everything you need for letterpress printing, including tabletop presses, he is in the yellow pages on this site. Good Luck Dick G.

Thanks Dick, that’s a great tip! I may have to do a little road trip.

Grace

Grace, make sure you contact them, they are only open every other weekend, i think. dick g.

Stunning letterpress is done by Blueberry Invitations in Montreal, Quebec. They specialize in invitations but do a lot of different artistic letterpresses.
The address is 95 Beaubien Ouest, in the Outremont area.

Hello Folks,

I have been printing for 40 years and have a print shop in Montreal, we have around 12 presses offset & Letterpress
4 platin presses and one Miller Simplex flat bed cyclinder
20” x 26” it was one of the last Miller Letterpress’s “Erected 1948” in Texas. I bought it at auction in Vermont complete with a new set of rubber rollers wrapped and have never printed with it. I diecut all the time with this press would love to dress her up for a re-make of say a Billy the Kid wanted poster straight out of 1881.
I doubt there is another press like this in Canada.

Able to give lessons on letterpress printing, diecutting, embossing and hot stamping.

Regards,
