October Windmill Master Classes coming up at SlowPrint!

U P D A T E - 7 September
——
Dubuque is on the banks of the upper Mississippi River, and is a primary destination for Autumn/Fall Color season!
Towering bluffs, flocks of pelicans, bald eagles and other birds, the tri-state corner Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois is an anchor of the unique Driftless bioregion. Three successive glaciations missed this corner of the midwest, leaving it filled with winding ‘coulees’ and overlooks, dense with ancient settlement and Native history, as well as the Riverboat culture of the ‘opening’ of the old West.

Come see us in October for the next Windmill Master Class at SlowPrint Letterpress!

We’ve rescheduled the August seminar to October 7-9.
Two places left for Windmill Master Class at SlowPrint in Dubuque!

“Peter is a pleasure to listen to and his knowledge about the subject of printing is both extensive and impressive. His wealth of experience shows in how he teaches the class and understands the needs of each student.
“Great experience… Peter made me feel so welcome and the studio has a lovely warm atmosphere to work in, it was a real joy and was happy to come from Australia to learn from a master - thanks Peter!”
— Karen Adams (Queensland, Australia)

Please contact Peter ASAP to reserve!

The September Workshops in Dallas and San Antonio are filled.

Book a seminar at your shop! Invite two or three more folks, and we’ll have a great time with your Windmill or C&P or Vandercook!

New Windmill and C&P Master Classes coming up at SlowPrint!

I’m happy to present our 2015 course offerings, including Letterpress Master Classes, and the new “Emptiness is a Design Pattern” series of ‘negative-space’ studies…

“I was searching for a pro. An artist. Someone who could help start me on my new creative journey in the beautiful world of Letterpress… With a new Windmill press, I was feeling daunted…what have I gotten myself into?!?!?! No worries. Attending the Master’s Class quelled all of my fears. Peter’s patient instruction was everything I was looking for! After my lovely visit to his AMAZING studio in Dubuque, IA, I left feeling confident. Ready. Inspired. I know I’ve not only made a quality connection in the industry, but a new friend away from Colorado as well…a memorable experience gained!”
— Melody Snowdon (Boulder)

These include
•Windmill Master Class, with a focus on the Heidelberg Windmill 10x15, including perfect impression, registration, paper transport, die-cutting, problem solving, etc.
Three full days, late August
(As offered at Erik Spiekermann’s Berlin “Gallerie P98a” in 2014!)

•Perfect Impression on the C&P Style Platen Press. The Chandler & Price job press is capable of exquisitely controlled inking and consistent even impression, but it takes some deeper understanding of the press and its adjustments to get world class results!
Dates flexible, three full days

•Experimental Letterpress with Woodtype, which focusses on the flatbed Vandercook (ours is a 219 with a 19”x26” bed) and why and when to print on dampened stock.
AKA, How John Baskerville squeezed the life out of printing, and what we can do to bring it back!
Dates Flexible
(An extended version of my workshop at the 2015 Type on the Cob!)

Any of these topics can be also covered in private courses, whether in our SlowPrint Letterpress Studio in Dubuque, or at your press.

Limited to no more than 5 persons, for maximum time on press. Cost is $650/ea if five sign up. These seminars are for advanced and commercial practitioners and are priced accordingly.

I’m happy to occasionally offer sincere and committed students various apprenticeships or partial scholarships.
