Kelsey 5x8 handle won’t budge

Long time reader, first time poster. I recently acquired a Kelsey 5x8 that appears to be in serviceable condition. However, the handle won’t move. It has s little play in it, but it won’t budge. I won’t push on it too hard without knowing what might be stopping it. Is there anything I should be looking for first? It has a healthy layer of rust that I plan on removing during restoration, but I don’t even know what areas to be oiling and looking at. Any ideas?

Just soak all the joints and shafts you can find with some penatrating oil and let it soak for a couple of days. Should be able to give the handle a nudge up or down and gradually get movement.

Of course it’s that easy! I have it soaking right now.

For those of you that search this site looking for an answer to this question: Even though it was a glaringly obvious and simple solution—it worked! I have a moving press now.
