Relief Workshops at the Morgan Conservatory

Join us for one of these relief printmaking workshops this summer:

From Block to Book: Linocut Prints for Artist’s Books
Taught by Julie Friedman
August 25-26, 10 – 4
Hand print linoleum blocks to create a variety of colorful images and incorporate them into a complete book. Julie Friedman will present various relief printmaking techniques and alternative formats for artist’s books, including structures that can be pasted, sewn or assembled in new and intriguing ways. From these choices, you can select the options that work best for your individual projects. Working from the theme of innovation within simplicity, you will have the chance to make an edition, or create two entirely different books!

Blades on Boards: Explorations in Woodblock Print Making
Taught by Claudio Orso-Giacone
September 8-9, 10 – 4
Cut into wood with gouges and chisels to create an image to ink and print in the Morgan’s studio. We will study all stages of woodblock printing, from transferring an image onto a wood block-to carving it using gouges and knives-to printing proofs and final prints. We will also consider various styles by viewing prints from Claudio Orso’s personal collection. Equipped with the tools and techniques of woodblock printing, you’ll be able to create your own work in a studio of mutual inspiration and communal learning where feedback of work is encouraged.
