John Randles Inc. N.Y. Press, Mangle, What???

Does anyone have any information on this press? Someone suggested it is a laundry mangle but it is covered in ink and has a wooden part which seems to discount the laundry use. The best we can figure is it is some sort of proof press for metal plates before they are attached to the wood block. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks

Seems the bed is adjustable and this could be a proofpress for stereo plates
