What an amazing machine! The LINOTYPE!. This one is loaded. comes with documentation for the accessories.
There is a lead smelter, 11 pigs, file cabinet drawers of matrices , about 15 or more fully loaded magazines which weigh about 70-80 lbs.
It is in great shape. The Owner and son were master mechanics. There are lots of galleys of type for repeat jobs that are on longer used. There is documentation for the STAR PARTS and others accessories.
There are 4 cabinets of galleys containing lead type and furniture.. There are four other older wooden cabinets (1940-1960) full of type.
Sadly, there is no one left to run the presses. The father and son printers are no longer with us so we have to close the shop. My father, The Virginia Press, has been in business since 1937. The linotype is likely at least 60 years old b/c I was a linotypist as a child. My grandfather was a linotypist too.
We would like to find a good home for these fabulous machines before the bulldozers roll in. The property is being sold.
