I started the press in 1971 as part of Koglomerati AM, an artists’ collaborative in St. Petersburg, Florida. When the warehouse studio space was lost, Konglomerati Press moved to nearby Gulfport, Florida, and continued as a collaboration with artist Barbara Russ, expanding under grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Florida Arts Council, and private foundations to a nonprofit regional Literary Center, Konglomerati Florida Foundation for Literature and the Book Arts. It published primarily experimental contemporary literature, making letterpress books by hand in its studios from the casting of the type to the hand-sewn bindings. The last publication from Konglomerati Press was issued in 1988. Its surviving letterpress equipment and printed pages are now part of the Tampa Book Arts Studio at the University of Tampa.
