Windmill inking arm roller tension
Hello,
Attached are photos of the problem. It looks like the spring tension that keep the inking rollers in place is gummed up. I wanted to ask here if anyone has run into this, and if anyone has any tips.
I have hit it with compressed air and gave it a good oiling, but it does not want to free up. My next step is to knock the pin keeping the block out and see if I can unscrew the rod that the two springs run on and clean it.
Thank you,
Eric

Rough sketch of tension springs based on parts manual. I think it is the center block gummed up.

Back of tension arm. I give that rod to the right a quarter turn clockwise and the center block and spring reset, bringing the roller back flush with the plate

Rollers slipping off plate
Of course, the red fittings get oiled daily, so the rod moves freely in the bushings.
Also, the felt-pad in the block gets oiled weekly. (see pic) The arms are stopped in the position where the block and pad are accessed through the hole.
The block is a guide to keep the trucks in line with the rails. If you can turn the rod 90 degrees, the pin in the block may already be sheared off.

Do I need to take off the entire arm to replace the pin? Or is there another way? Would I need to find a new block? Oiling the block was not on my list, but now it is. The zerk fittings above, definitely.
It seems removal is the only recourse.
I suggest contacting Studio Pression, they posted regarding a similar issue.

Thank you for the back link. I read through it and sure enough… The top roller bearing was a half an inch off. Simple thing staring me in the face. Reseated it and now it’s back up to speed. Just in time to do some coasters.
