Stumped
Hi folks, wonder if this quirky typeface looks familiar to anyone? I am looking for the foundry and designer. The galley it is in was marked Delis, 44 and a half points.
No pin mark, and the type has been milled on the bottom to make it american type high. Nick is at the bottom as with almost all type. What a wild face!
Thanks in advance,
Mike Moore

Well it certainly sounds european, based on the size and that it wasn’t originally UK/US type high.
The ‘specials’ (i.e. the type versions of A,C, etc) are weird, like a swash set, but it’s the J that flummoxes me. It’s dotted, which matches the ‘lowercase’ version of the I.
Best of luck with it!
Not only is that typeface stunning the composing stick cuts are also very cool!
To my novice eye that looks Italian. If you have instagram you could ask Luca Lattuga @luca_anonimaimpressori He is all knowing when it comes to elaborate fonts like that one! If you don’t have instagram I can ask on your behalf. Thanks for sharing it here!
Thanks Crista, I went ahead and posted a question about this face to Luca. I appreciate the referral!

Luca was able to ID this weirdo. Well, he called it beautiful and I guess we’ll go with that.
unfortunately the specimen sheet photos he sent were wrought in that peculiar disappering ink that Instagram uses, but we know the name and the foundry and date.
I hate instagram. makes me feel like a noob.
it is called caracas in the Neibolo/Augusta catalog of 1920.
But it also was shown in 1908 called Milano for a foundry called Urania, which predates the Neibolo/Augusta foundry.
Thanks again!
