first project
I purchased a victor 6x9 tabletop press that had been sitting unused for quite some time in a barn. It came with a coffee can of mixed typeface.
I sourced rollers from Todd’s Press Time LLC. Thank you Todd
I sourced a basic starter kit from Andrew Churchman at buyletterpress dot com. Thank you Andrew
I sorted the coffee can of type best I could and it was an incomplete set. I did a test run with it and got an impression right off the bat.
I then got some photopolymer plates and a deep relief base from Box car press. Thank you.
I looked through the images of ornementation on Briar Press and used one. Thank you to whoever did the corner ornaments.
This past weekend it took three attempts to get a photopolymer plate to come out good enough for print. The first not nearly enough exposure. No image, The second, the lines on the ornementation and some lettering were not thick enough or not enough exposure. The third came out well enough for a first try.
Last night I mounted to the base, and did a test run. There was quite a bit of adjustments needed for the make ready phase. Add some paper here, add some more there… take it all out and start over, adjust the foam guage pin locations. I think I ended up with about a 20% success rate of total sheets of card stock / paper to basically acceptable cards.
Fun learning project. Funny I didn’t have to fuss with make ready nearly as much with the typeface as with the photopolymer plate.

DougieB,
A good start!
Making photopolymer plates can be a long learning experience, but you’ve done well in a short amount of time.
All the best to you.
