Cannot identify these two fonts

Both are 18pt, only Caps. ‘What the font’ kept going for fuzzy ones (sorry, I dont have a proof press yet so this is the best I can do without setting up a full print job, and ugh!)

They are not the same font, one is shorter in character actual height (not font size). Maybe condensed?

The “Q” looks a lot like Adonis from Stephenson Blake (circa 1962). It’s kind of elusive, and I am having a hard time finding a primary specimen of it, but multiple listings that it was cast in multiple sizes. My 1970 copy of The Encyclopedia of Typefaces was the best listing I could find, but the tail of the “Q” and the lack of a foot on the “G” are pretty clear matches.

I’m trying to find an online version for my “font book” I am building, but every Adonis I find looks… unlike this :(

It looks like Spartan (Stephenson Blake) or Plate Gothic (Mouldtype).

Ken, the Q doesn’t match on those from what I can find. The case I bought should be fairly “normal” typefaces, from Faribault MN. They weren’t too fancy, heh.

The Plate Gothic series was cast by most foundries, each with slight variations of detail: I’ve checked the Riscatype (an English foundry) series, and the Q matches perfectly. Good luck!

Ken, yes, the Q is great on that Plat Gothic, the other letters like T’s have accents on the end points, and mine is plain jane lettering on those.

It’s a tough one for sure!

Yes, indeed - I assume that there’s no foundry pin-mark to help with identification?

Not that I have seen, no.
