The Maynard News - printed while you watch at the 2025 MN State Fair
The inside pages of a new issue of The Maynard News went on the press today. We’ll start backing up the sheets as soon as we get page 4 made up, and continue printing daily throughout the fair, August 21 through September 1. Here are the forms on our 1924 Miehle Pony. Don’t worry, we removed the quoin key before we started printing.

…and here are perfected copies coming off the press on August 21.

Thanks for a good report. Every year, a friend who lives near the fair sends me a video of the press in operation, hoping for the day I can visit.
Is that 35# newsprint high-bright they’re using or more of a 60# or 70# textbook paper?
It is a light weight newsprint that is donated in plain brown paper wrappers, so I don’t have more specifications. Every 20th sheet or so looks slightly heavier, smoother, and more opaque.
Great to see the Pony in operation. Reminds me of this shop.

And this is what the press (1896) in the foreground produced.
The other Pony was used for jobber work, mostly posters and large copy. Colour work was also done, but those knowing what that involved understand how seldom it was done! :o)
