Preventing Scams

We just wanted to remind the community about a few safety tips regarding selling and buying items off our classifieds list or anywhere on the internet.

Do’s:
-Verify the seller or buyer is legitimate by asking for specific details regarding the item for sale/purchase.
-Ask for videos of the item with specific questions for them to answer or schedule a FaceTime or Zoom call with the seller to confirm.
-Watch for odd grammar, punctuation mistakes, extremely formal sentences, or pressure tactics; all can allude to a potential scammer.
-Meet in person when possible.
-Try a reverse image search (or an AI checker, increasingly) to identify re-used imagery.

Don’t:
-Pay by check, cash (unless in person), or wire transfer.
-Accept payment/pickup from people other than the buyer.
