C&P sizes?

Greetings, I’m looking to purchase a letterpress printer at some point in the future and have been pointed to the C&P Pilot letterpresses as a solid choice.

I’m trying to get a handle on how big they are and how big the paper is that they support. They appear to be referenced as x by y, where that might be 8 by 12 or 6 1/2 by 10.

Now, for the different sizes (roughly):

How big is the size of paper that they handle (say, for 8 by 12)? Can they handle more than one size?

How big is the actual press (in terms of floor space and height), and how heavy is it?

I think up to 8 1/2 x 11 paper is probably good enough for me, but it’d be nice to make bigger posters (11 x 17) or so if that was straightforward.

The x by y sizes you are referring to is the size of the chase. Which means, all things being perfect, this would be the maximum printable form you could use in the press. On tabletop presses you won’t be able to use the whole chaseā€¦ and may give yourself makeready headaches if you tried doing so on a floor model.

Presses vary in size from 200 to 4000+ pounds. If you are talking about 12x18 you would be looking at something in the neighborhood of one ton. If you want 6.5x10 you could be looking at 200 lbs depending on the press.
