Separating new and old notes…

I don’t have any idea how to do this, but it would be wonderful if there was some way to visually indicate new notes from old notes. With the text that indicates how many people are active on the site it seems like it might be possible to keep track of the last time “I” was on the site.

Then use a different color for notes that have been written since I was last on. I can see the problem with changing the color on the name but maybe you could change the color on the date to orange (all previous note dates could just stay grey).

It is usually fairly easy to notice a new note when I’m getting on every couple of days, but if you go a week it is much harder to remember what you’ve seen before. The serious added issue is the instances when someone replies to a note bringing it back to the top of the list. For instance the note that is at the top of the list right now is “Saddles for a C&P Old Style” which was written on January 22 is at the top because someone replied today, April 5.

Just a thought.

Actually, isn’t it already keeping track of that. After I wrote that previous note I went back to ‘discussion’ and there it says how many new notes there were including mine.

Does it already know that specifically for me. It seems to. Then the issue is to indicate in some way which of the notes are new based on their subjects in the main list and then some way to indicate which of the replies are new since the last visit.

Hmmm.

Hi Wallflowers,

Good sleuthing work. The system does indeed keep track of which discussions and comments are new for each logged-in visitor. The only tricky part is grabbing that data and working it into the main Discussion pages in a better way.

I think I had something like this working once, but clearly it got lost in the February interface upgrade. Getting it back isn’t as easy as flipping a switch, but I’ve added it to my to-do list. Will look into it further.
