Cedar Creek Press

I enjoy sharing the craft of printing with newcomers and have helped several people, over the years, get a handle on the basics of letterpress production. While not exactly on the major trade routes geographically, I am certainly willing to have folks stop by and visit my shop and do some initial tinkering with the process. As to experience and qualifications, I taught printing and advertising production for many years at Oklahoma State University and Northern Illinois University. I have a B.A. in Journalism & English from the University of Iowa (student of Harry Duncan and Kim Merker) and a M.S. in Printing Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology. I’ve been a letterpress printer for about 35 years.

Hi John,

I have been on the hunt for some letterpress lessons around my area, but it’s been nearly impossible to find. Any chance you would be willing to teach an eager learner?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Sandra

I tried to contact you just a minute ago, but I don’t think the message got by the BriarPress server, so here we go again.

I’d be happy to provide some lessons to you at my shop or yours, if not too far away.

Do you already have a press? Where are you located?

Hi John,

So good to hear from you. I am actually in Omaha, but am more than willing to drive out to your shop to learn. I don’t own a press yet, I am wanting to learn before I invest. I will be taking a weekend workshop in Minneapolis next month, but I would really appreciate any lessons/practice from you.
