Can’t find a serial number on my pilot

Hi all,

I just acquired a beautiful Old Style Pilot, and I’m trying to figure out how old it is. There is no serial number on the press bed anywhere, and I’m wondering if there is somewhere else it might be. I read somewhere that C&P stopped stamping “Pilot” into the back of the press around 1900, and mine has this stamp. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Nina

Nina,

Unfortunately there’s no way to tell how old it is. C&P didn’t stamp serial numbers into the Pilot presses until much later. Even then, as far as I know, nobody has a serial list for Pilots so everything is just a guess.

Brad.

Hi Brad,

Cool. Thanks for the info. I’ll just tell everyone it’s 100+ years cause it sounds awesome.
