c&p pilot old style

I just purchased a c&p pilot and am thrilled. My only concern is it was shipped without a gripper bar. I asked the seller about it, and he said many people run without the gripper bar.

thoughts???

thanks,
Maureen

This is correct. When I purchased my new style Pilot, it was missing a gripper bar. I’ve since used my press a number of times and wasn’t handicapped by not having the gripper bar. Although you have to do a little bit of a workaround like maybe putting a rubber band on top in order to hold the paper.

I believe Dave Churchman sells all the parts to set it up as original.

try to contact alan at excelsior press in new jersey, he might have the part or be able to make one for you. you can run without them, but grippers are nice to have. the pilot looks a lot like the craftsman press, i’m no expert on table tops, but i think you can still get parts for craftsman presses. craftsman machinery in massachusetts. maybe the gripper bar is the same? good luck dick g
