Pinmark ID

I have some old Howland 48 pt. with a round pinmark. It has the number “48” atop an upper case “A” inside the circle.
I’m pretty sure this is an ATF pinmark, but can anyone date it or tell me where it was produced?
Thank you.

Howland originated with the Dickinson Type Foundry in 1892. The A in the pin-mark indicates that your type was cast by ATF’s Boston Branch, probably after that date. ATF’s 1896 specimen book shows 11 sizes; 6 pt. to 60 pt.
More information can be found in Mac McGrew’s book, if you can find or borrow one.
