Choosing a Press

I am looking for a comparable press that will give me the same surface area of impression as a Vandercook. This is the machine I learned to letterpress on, but they are rare (and expensive). What are the alternatives?

Hello Kimberly,
You may like to consider one of the other brands of proof presses. You can read more about them on the Other Brands section of vandercookpress.info.

I have seen some very nice machines made by Reprex, for example, and the price of these presses tend to be considerably lower than an equivalent Vandercook.

Kimberly, the c&p is a pretty good press, the 12x18 should give you plenty of pressure, the 10x15 is much more common, you should try to find someone in your area that has one and see if they will show you how it prints, you are welcome to see my platens run, if your in southeastern massachusetts. Thanks for all of your help!
