Buying rollers

Ok, so we bought an 1885 Golding press, its chase is 7.5x11 and it looks like a Pearl (based on pictures I found online). It’s in good condition but needs rollers and trucks. How do I measure for size to place an order with either NA or Tarheal? (both were recommended to me by the person we bought the press from and seem to be highly regarded here as well).

Thank you in advance for your help.

I have a rare Golding Official Map Press 8x12 and researched rollers for awhile, while refurbishing my press. I decided on rubber rollers and had Adrian of Ramco Roller make mine, along with 4 new trucks. My final product is EXCELLENT due to the time he took getting the correct measurements from another Golding owner. I will have to post a photo soon. Enjoy!

The center-to-center distance between the roller hooks on one side, minus a little (maybe 1/8 inch) for clearance, is the maximum diameter of the rollers, and the trucks should be about 1/16 inch less diameter than the rollers. Roller core diameter is the same as the inside of the hooks, and core length is the outside to outside distance from one hook across the press to the comparable one, plus a little. Roller width should be the same as the ink disc diameter. Those dimensions will work.

Thank you Bob, that was the information I needed. Now to get out the ruler and start making measurements. I will post them up (with pictures of what I am measuring) and see what people think just in case I make a mistake.

Thanks again everybody.

One aspect I forgot about — most Goldings, it seems, use a roller truck with a small diameter portion that fits into the roller hook, so the core is actually smaller in diameter than the hook. Here’s a closeup of the roller trucks I made for my 8x12 Official’s new rollers. They are nylon rod.
