Painting a Vandercook

I would like to paint a Vandercook SP-15 that has some rusty spots. I find posts in the archives about painting cast iron presses, but I am not sure if the info applies to the SP-15 (not quite sure what kind of metal it’s made from).

Has anyone done this? What cleaning and painting products did you use, and how did you use them? (Or can you point me toward the info in the archives if it’s there?)

Thanks!
Barbara

Rustoleum Smoke Gray is a pretty close match, but not perfect. It comes in spray cans and also quart containers. Make sure any surface you repaint is completely free of oil, grease and dirt first!

Hi Barbara,

I painted the feed board of a Vandercook No. 4. This photo and the following four in the set show how I did it. Of course, the feed board is the easiest part of the press to paint.

Has anyone painted their Vandercook anything other than gray? My SP-20 that’s coming in July is green. Was that a standard color option at the time? The paint certainly doesn’t look new.
