Wedding Invite Woes!!
I would love any and all suggestions to my invite dilemma. I have attached the following 4 photos to help. I print with a Golding 8x12 table top that gives a beautiful deep impression without ink, but I am needing a deep impression with ink! I am using med brown rubber based ink. My plate is 5x7 magnesium from Owosso. I have even tried “flipping” my chase with the same exact results.
HELP!!
My first photo has one red board as packing, no impression, see notes on photo. My second photo is the same packing but I dampened the paper. My third photo is lots of packing, no impression and uneven inking, awful! My fourth photo is just
on 80#savoy paper. I have brand new rubber rollers, tried taping the rails but use my press without tape. My platen is level (did the leveling procedure and it came out perfect).
Thanks for any and all thoughts! Denise
Sorry if this is a double photo, not sure it uploaded: Savoy 80# paper example.

Makeready
If you’re ordering mag on wood from Owosso, I would make sure the plate is type high throughout. Unevenness is why I switched to a honeycomb base when I was using mag plates.
Other than that, makeready.
Good luck!
When i get uneven impression like your 3rd photo i will tape a sheet of 20 lb bond behind the chase to get the impression more even. Remember the more type in your form the more impression it takes to make it print. you should be able to print this with Makeready, like everyone else said. chersom is right, the wood today seems uneven, i order unmounted 1/4” mag dies then mount them on my furniture with 2 pieces of chipboard behind the furniture and i’m good to go. If your still having trouble i’d be glad to help you, i’m not far from you, maybe an hours drive. Just hop a plane to Boston, rent a car and i’m 1 hour south. Good Luck Dick G.
Thanks for all the input…back at it tomorrow to get this right.
Thanks for the offer Dick, I will actually be flying into Manchester in September, but I need these invites done by next week! Denise

If you are in Manchester, New Hampshire look me up, its about a 2 or 2 and a half hour drive to Hanson, MA. Even if you don’t get here you should check out the Printing Museum in North Andover, Massachusetts, they are on the border of New Hampshire, only open friday and saturday, well worth a visit, they even have a store where they sell letterpress tools and type .
