8x5” Mounting Plate

Hi Guys,

I am looking for somewhere where I can purchase a ‘type high’ mounting plate to fit into my adana 8x5 press. This plate will be used to mount photopolymer plates onto.

If anybody has some links or information it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Chris.

Search for Letterpress Deep Relief Base on ebay

I think you mean mounting “base.” You can get these from any of the following popular suppliers: Boxcar Press, Bunting Magnetics, Elum Designs, Patrick Reagh Printers.

You would need to know the thickness and backing of the plate you intend to use in regard to choosing a base.

Thanks for the input.

Mantaray: I searched it on eBay and came up with one item. It is very expensive in my opinion - over a third of the presses value! But that it exactly what I am looking for!

Bielerpr: Thanks, I see Boxcar also do the plates I am after. I wonder if there is a stockist in the UK?!

Thanks again,

Chris.

Chris, buy your self some digital calipers, get your plates made and then get some MDF cut as a base, mount the plate on this and bring it up to .918” with layers of either paper or sheet plastic etc behind the MDF.

This is what I do for metal plates.

Not fancy, but you’ll be able to get printing without a large outlay.
You wont generate the pressure on an 8x5 to damage the MDF in the short term.

Good luck

Chris,

Check out www.excelsiorpress.org and their “chase base”, this is a great alternative to all of the expensive bases out there.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I may try and make one for now or bite the bullet and pay for one.

I am not sure what thickness I should be getting my photopolymer plates made into?! I’m sure it depends on what impression I would like, but I would like to know if their is a standard thickness? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
