Replacing ink drum springs

I’m trying to replace the ink drum springs on my Vandercook SP20. In order to do so, I believe that I have to lift the drum to a near vertical position. I’ve removed the set screws but I think that the chain is still holding the drum down. Do I have to remove the chain to lift the drum and, if so, how the hell do I do that? Any help is much appreciated.

Use a spring hook to remove the old springs and to install new ones. To remove the existing spring, insert hook into the top loop and pull up and off screw post. To install a new spring, attach the bottom loop onto the lower screw post, them insert spring hook into the top loop and stretch spring over the top post.
