Craftsmen Monarch and roller setting guage

Hello. I picked up a Craftsmen Monarch press and am wondering: Do I need a Roller setting gauge? If so, can someone briefly explain what it does? I’ve never used one in the past

Rollers are passed over the round part of a roller setting gauge as it lies on the bed of the press. The stripe of ink left on the gauge is measured: If it is too wide, the rollers are low and trucks or rails need to be taped. If it is to narrow, the rollers have shrunk or the trucks are too large in diameter and need to be replaced.

You will need one, especially if you would like to print from photopolymer accurately.

For a roller setting gauge take a wooden dowel exactly “Type high” and put a stick on the round side., set this on your bed and do 1 roller at a time make a 8 pt ink mark with the roller the top of the gauge and adjust all roller ends to 8 pt wide mark
This will make you happy and give you a good impression.
Type high = 0.918”

John, where do you get type high dowel?
